The Basics of Pasta

The first thing people need to know about pasta is the true definition of pasta, which is actually different from what people actually think it is.

Pasta n.:
A famous recipe which primarily began in the country of Italy, composing of a thick mixture of flour made from hard wheat and also composed of water. Formed and crafted into many different varying shapes and configurations, while mainly being prepared by leaving in water above its boiling point.

As you can see, even the basics of this fine subject can seem very strange and confusing at first to a newcomer, so the next step is to be eased into the all the delicious kinds of pasta:

  • Fusilli
  • Fusilli are corkscrew shaped pasta that is formed by pressing small bits of dough over a spinning rod. Interestingly enough, the color can be changed (via different ingredients) and his will actually change their flavor!

  • Spaghetti
  • Spaghetti is a long, thin, sticklike pasta. that becomes limp when its cooked. It's often seen as the symbol of Italian cuisine, and is notably loved by all Italian stereotypes.

  • Penne
  • Penne is a type of cylinder pasta that can be made smooth or rigged. And it may be sometimes referred to as Mostaccioli if you live in the US.

  • Farfalle
  • You may not recognize the name of this pasta, but may seem familiar. That's because it is known to most people as "bow-tie pasta"

  • Tortellini
  • Tortellini is a special type of pasta that is made by wrapping dough around a filling, such as meat.

  • Rigatoni
  • Rigatoni is a spiraling pasta that is quite similar to Penne. It also appears that "Andre" is quite the fan of this popular pasta.

Now that you know all about pasta, let's learn some quick trivia:

  6. People actually don't realise, but Pasta is actually made from dough (which comes from wheat), not aliens.
  7. Most people think pasta was brought to Italy by Marco Polo, but due to some paintings, we actually know it to be an anonymous person, who passed through Italy with his spaghetti and rigatoni before he pasta-way.
